I just haven't been commenting...I'm alive!

I just haven't been commenting because I don't have any valuable input, but I was thinking that writers should try to master the art of the Judge-Fu. I think it's alright to get your story out on paper, but when you're done, you should go through and fix it. I remember that I typed out a short scene for a story, and I came back to it later and cut out an entire chunk because it was boring.Ang Dotnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4982069049641262423.post-65105860627257197412010-02-20T11:11:51.538-06:002010-02-20T11:11:51.538-06:00Thanks for a very timely post. A challenge of some of these bigger contests is they require a huge pool of judges to cope with the number of entries, and a lot of those judges just aren't qualified for the job.

Finding the balance between tact and honesty was always the thing I agonized over. I didn't want to make anyone cry, but with a select few entries, truly, it was impossible to find anything positive to say other than "Good for you for having the confidence to enter!"

Ultimately, I'm not comfortable in the role of judge, so I don't do it anymore, which I think is better for everyone involved. Some of my tact-deficient brethren out there obviously ought to do the same.Kerry Allenhttp://www.kerry-allen.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4982069049641262423.post-73183316335168177582010-02-20T01:01:34.037-06:002010-02-20T01:01:34.037-06:00A timely and informative post!
